High School Students and Vets Will Tour ViaSat to Learn About High-Tech Manufacturing Careers

Part of National Manufacturing Day October 3

Carlsbad, Calif. – Sept. 24, 2014 – ViaSat Inc. will be hosting invited groups of local high school students and veterans on Manufacturing Day, Friday, October 3 to expand knowledge and awareness of manufacturing career opportunties in the high-tech sector. Engineering and computer science degrees are often seen as the only path into well-paid high-tech jobs, but wireless companies like ViaSat also assemble and test many of the innovative products they design. While technical training and aptitude are needed, manufacturing can provide rewarding careers to individuals without requiring a college degree.
The economic impact of local manufacturing operations is also significant. Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and Asst. City Manager Kathy Dodson will attend the event and provide opening remarks on the benefits to the local community.

About MFG Day (www.mfgday.com)
MFG DAY addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry. Supported by a group of industry sponsors and co-producers, MFG DAY is designed to amplify the voice of individual manufacturers and coordinate a collective chorus of manufacturers with common concerns and challenges.
